Sorrelember ~ RiverClan Queen
Depression. That’s all her life had been ever since what happened to Sootstain had occurred, food was bland, while her nest seemed to beckon her endlessly. If it hadn’t been for Koipetal, she more than likely would have succumbed to never eating, although her tender hearted brother always made sure she at least had a few mouthful of her meal. However, today her paw steps seemed to be just a tad lighter as she walked through the growing lemon grass, her toes pressing into the moist dirt beneath her paw pads. Oh, how long it had been since she had stepped out of the camp? A week? This morning she was given such excellent news that a bit of light was beginning to shine its way back into her life. Fiery orange eyes flickered towards the feline that walked a few paces ahead of her, his black dappled pelt so familiar that she had no doubt it was her estranged brother, Pantherstorm. Seasons had gone by since she actually had a relationship with her littermate, but he was still family and the need to express herself to her brother, was almost overwhelming. Would he care though? Most likely not, but she wanted him to know.
Rich black, red and white fur was clean and sleeked back against her slender figure, which had gotten leaner due to her lack of eating. Heronflight seemed to see her change of attitude this morning and decided to pair the two siblings for a small hunting patrol, prey was beginning to be more plentiful, although prey wasn’t exactly on her mind. Peering thoughtfully at Pantherstorm, her eyes watching his long tail sway as she tried to conjure a way to even start the conversation. Her lips parted but she found herself hesitating, Pantherstorm usually barked angrily at anyone and what would stop him from doing that to her? “So… New-leaf has come a bit early this season hasn’t it?” Sorrelember finally spoke, looking around her surroundings as she noticed the frothed of the grass and the budding along the willow tree. Life had returned to the Clans, in more ways than one. She quickened her pace to where she was almost walking beside Pantherstorm, his gait was much longer than her own but she was certainly determined. Her Panther was still somewhere within this husk of her brother and she wasn’t giving up on him yet.March 22, 2020 at 1:12 pm #5565ToriParticipant

Border patrols were done more frequently than ever after the battle that RiverClan had with ThunderClan, per their mother’s orders, and Heronflight was very diligent about ensuring that her commands were followed through properly. He was fulfilling his role as deputy but that was about it as far as he was concerned. The grey tom wasn’t bringing anything new to the table and he wasn’t excelling at being an exceptional part of the Clan past his basic roles. It was an eyesore and Pantherstorm wished that he was able to properly get rid of him in the battle like he had intended to. The dappled black tom’s brow furrowed as he was lost in his own thoughts, the memory of Forestmask’s intrusion surfacing into his mind. His former mentor had interrupted him, stopping him from attacking Heronflight in the midst of the battle, his intentions revealed to his brother in the process. But Pantherstorm couldn’t fathom why Forestmask would have even tried to stop him in the first place. Of course, he had a basic understanding of the warrior code and that it was frowned upon to take another cat’s life, nevertheless one of your own Clan — the Clan deputy at that, but couldn’t they see that Heronflight was a waste of breath? Even if he hadn’t been granted an apprentice of his own yet and didn’t quite meet the standards required to become deputy, Pantherstorm just assumed that he would be a more appropriate fit to lead the Clan at the right hand than their current occupant. He was clearly the right choice.
His inner monologue was cut short by the voice of a feline beside him, such a thing reminding him of the fact that he had company on this patrol. His yellow eyes glanced over to his sister, Sorrelember. She and himself had not been close in a long time, and he was not keen to forget how she had spoken to him the last time they had talked. In fact, her current state of sadness was completely lost on him, unrecognizable to the cold and distant tom. Regardless, he decided to entertain her for now. “I suppose. But that’s a good thing, is it not? New-Leaf means prey is returning.” And more than just the kind of prey that would feed their Clan, at that. He thought maliciously to himself. A new change of season would give him more of an opportunity to move to the next stage of his plan. It would all come together soon… But he couldn’t lay in wait and let his thoughts roam right now, not in front of his sister, he supposed. “There are many more opportunities warm weather brings, too.”March 22, 2020 at 1:32 pm #5568

She had no idea of the plans that her littermate had laid out for all the clans, if she had perhaps she would have kept her distance. Perhaps if her mother knew she would banish her son or kill him. But these plans were unknown to her and all she thought was that her brother wanted to isolate himself. Honestly she was surprised that he was even speaking to her, ears perking up as she drank in every word that he spoke. Pantherstorm had seemed to grow taller than the last time she had spoken to him, his muscles broadened from his training and even his voice seemed colder than last time. But she tried to ignore that as she simply rejoiced in the fact that he was responding for now. “I suppose.” She shrugged slightly, New-Leaf had never really been her favorite season, but she knew what it meant for the clans. His words seemed refreshing, causing the corner of her lips to lift faintly in a tiny smile.
“That sounds a little cheery.” Sorrelember grinned slightly for a moment, although she remembered just who she was talking to and she didn’t exactly want to ruin their talk with her humor. “That is very true..” She muttered, orange eyes flickering towards her brothers face, his face empty of emotion and his eyes cold. Was her Panther still in there..? “In fact, a new opportunity has arisen for me and I would like to share it with you if you’ll hear it.” Sorrelember spoke in a soft tone, her eyes watching Pantherstorm curiously as she wondered if her brother would even care to let her speak, but she definitely wanted to tell him whether he cared or not.March 22, 2020 at 8:10 pm #5591ToriParticipant

Pantherstorm noticed that his sister had reacted cheerily, but then covered herself up and suppressed any kind of humorous reply that she might have wanted to respond with. He was grateful for this, for he absolutely did not want to deal with someone that was laughing and a voice that was obnoxious and high-pitched, or fast in speech because of something as useless as excitement. He didn’t have the time or tolerance for that sort of nonsense anymore. Surely, he had changed a lot since he was first made an apprentice. He was no longer eager or excited about anything anymore. When his sister had turned to look at him, Pantherstorm met her orange eyes with yellow ones that seemed to pique in interest. The mention of opportunity had clearly caught his attention. What could she be referring to? He wondered to himself. He didn’t know what sort of benefits Sorrelember had to present to RiverClan, but he wanted to find out if she was going to be a threat in his way of power and success. “Do go on,” He replied evenly, his gait and posture unchanging and his face stoic despite how badly he wanted to know what she was going to say next.March 22, 2020 at 9:06 pm #5594

She certainly noticed that Pantherstorm seemed slightly intrigued as his yellow eyes peered into her own orange gaze, although she was clearly unaware of exactly why he seemed like he would care. Sorrelember simply figured that her words had piked his interest, perhaps the gentle and curious soul of her brother still bubbled somewhere within his cold heart. However, she couldn’t have been more wrong, but perhaps in time his nature would suddenly show to be more sinister. But for now Sorrelember was blind to her brothers intentions, instead her own excited and anxiousness was bubbling just underneath her skin. Long legs easily kept up with her taller sibling, chin tilting slightly for a moment as her orange eyes flickered around the green grass and the sounds of the water coming from the small creek behind them.
Slowly she breathed in deeply through her nostrils and looked towards Pantherstorm. “I found out this morning that I am carrying kits.” Sorrelember told her brother, smiling softly to herself. “I know that you don’t care. It’s small and insignificant to you. But you are still my brother and I really couldn’t wait to tell you.” Sorrelember admitted, looking towards him curiously in order to read his reaction.
