All around colorful oak leaves of yellows, oranges and red floated gently to the forest floor from the breeze that rustled the treetops. Tanglepath enjoyed the crunch of the dried leaves under her brown tipped paws as she followed along the dirt trails of the territory. It had been a relatively quiet day. Nothing much going on but the usual camp activity in Thunderclan. Apprentices training, Warriors hunting, queens caring for their kits and elders sharing tounges or swapping stories outside there den. It was actually a relief to the young warrior. The last thing she wanted in the middle of leaffall was trouble.
Trouble…for some reason the word alone felt haunting. Shaking her head, she kept her bright blue gaze focused on movement in the distance. Brown ears perked carefully, listening for the faintest of sounds within the brambles and other foliage for prey. As much as she was out for a simple walk to relax, she was wondering to herself if maybe she should take some time to hunt for the clan. “Might as well.” She thought happily. Looking up she heard some birds nesting somewhere far atop the treetops. But the branches were to thin for her to attempt the climb up to them. Shifting her head to the other side of the trail, her blue eyes caught sight of some movement in a nearby holly bush. A squirrel was scurrying around the base of a oaktree gathering nuts for its winter storage.
A small smile crept upon Tanglepath’s brown face as she carefully avoided the leaves and sidestepped a bit to her left making sure she was fully out of sight of her prey. The wind was going downwind, so her scent was not noticed by the small grey creature. She curled her fluffy brown tail above the ground and close to her body as she partially hid behind the other part of the bush. Stopping briefly, she crouched low and wriggled her haunches in preparation for her leap. The squirrel was completely oblivious to the young warriors presence. “Now!” Tanglepath leaped squarely on top of the tree dwelling rodent. Claws dug deep into its flesh as she pinned the creature down and gave it a swift bite to the neck killing it instantly. She felt as the creature went limp beneath her and gave a purr of satisfaction as she picked it up between her jaws.October 14, 2020 at 9:49 pm #8338PheebsParticipant

Morningpaw sighed, exhaustion tugging at her paws. Somewhere beneath the chaos of thoughts running through her head, there was a voice urging her to curl up and give in to her fatigue. Leaf-fall was lovely, of course, it was, but it also carried a warning. The drying of leaves and hurried flight of birds foretold cold days to come, emphasized by days where the wind became too biting. Morningpaw admired the beauty of the leaf-fall scenery, but it filled her with dread, as well. Stressful hours searching for herbs and storing those she found, coupled with the worrying thought of disease, an annual concern. She’d become a medicine cat apprentice at seven moons, and she had determinedly memorized every herb, poultice, and technique she was taught. Morningpaw wouldn’t have trained under Peachblossom if she had been a better warrior apprentice or maybe her propensity for dreams haunted by Starclan led her down this path. Whatever the reason, it didn’t matter because this was her life now, and the golden tabby was set on making the most of it.
‘It’d still be nice to have a friend,’ she mused, ‘But I suppose it would be too much to ask that Minkpaw drop everything and move to Thunderclan.’ The apprentice’s attention was drawn away from her thoughts by the scent of a clanmate and fresh prey. Morningpaw stared mournfully in the direction of the SkyClan border before pasting on a soft smile and angling herself towards her clanmate.
“Tanglepath!” The tabby greeted warmly, brilliant blue eyes shot with red from nights of restless ‘sleep’ “How do you do?” She inquired, her voice a liquid warmth to contrast the biting leaf-fall temperature. “I’m glad to see the prey is still running about…”October 15, 2020 at 1:55 am #8339SilverscreechParticipant

Tanglepath swiveled her head towards the young orange medicine cat apprentice, squirrel still dangling from her jaws. Absentmindedly she let it drop in front of her and waved her brown tipped tail in greeting. “Hi Morningpaw!” She mewed cheerfully. Tanglepath hadn’t spoken much to the young med cat apprentice, but only because she had always been out on warrior duties. And lately since leaffall had arrived, the warriors were more busy now then ever assuring the clan was fed. Especially the elders and kits. “I’m doing great actually. Thank you for asking.” She replied. “Just enjoying the weather.” It had been a long time since anyone had asked how Tanglepath was. She honestly couldn’t remember the last time she had anyone show interest in her company. Although she felt like it was moons ago in another lifetime. “Yes. I’m hoping the prey keeps running a little longer before most of it decides to go hiding for hibernation.” She replied to morningpaws comment. Tanglepath enjoyed hunting and being a warrior, but she always admired the work that the medicine cats provided for the clan. So she had found alot of respect for Morningpaw. If it was her destiny to have been a medicine cat, Tanglepath would have taken the role proudly to protect and heal her clanmates. But that chance was long gone.
As the young apprentice bounded over closer to her, the himilayian warrior’s blue gaze quickly took notice the signs of exhaustion upon poor Morningpaw. She sat, curling her fluffy brown tipped tail around her paws, and cocked her head to the side, a frown upon her brown face. “You ok? You look like a raid of dogs came after you or something.” The young warrior wasn’t sure fully what was going on with morningpaw, but it appeared to her as if the young apprentice wasn’t going to be able to keep herself up on her paws for much longer.
