Glancing inauspiciously over his shoulder as he sneaks away from the returning group for afternoon patrol. A grin appearing onto his sharper features as none of his fellow clanmates noticed him slipping away. A sigh of relief escapes him as he was now able to relax and not worry over the possibility of getting caught. Now he could solely focus on going to his and Morning usual meeting spot. Minkbelly knew to not to get his hopes up, as Morningpaw had explained to him a few moons ago about her new duties as medicine cat apprentice. That her curfew and priorities would be more enforced.
The easy going tom understood completely, but that still didn’t mean his heart wouldn’t sink every time he didn’t see her waiting for him by their interwoven oak trees. Usually there would be a single flower or a flower crown left as a silent ‘hello and hope to see you again gesture’. A small cute way they started moons ago when Mink had jokingly brought her a sunflower in order for her to complete his flower crown. Ever since they would leave flowers to let the other one know that they were in their thoughts. Minkbelly did not care how cheesy it seemed, he always looked forward to see what flower she would leave behind next.
Smiling widely at the memory of her blabbering about how each flower held a meaning and secret properties flowers and herbs in general held when it came to medicines. Mink always found Morning adorable especially when she opened up and became so passionate about certain things. That had to be one of his fondest memories of her, that and when he gave her a heart attack by pretending to fall off a branch, that certainly had been a fun day. The tall lean butter scotch brown and pearl white young warrior was excited to reveal that he was a full fledged warrior of Skyclan. He wondered if she would actually be surprised with him earning his name when he had definitely been a troublemaker and still was.
Letting his warm golden brown hues flicker around in search of a flower. Now the lad was not well versed in flower terminology but he had picked up a few tips from his golden friend. Slowing his pace as a lavender hue flower gleaming in the golden afternoon light catches his attention. Tilting his wedges cranium in curiosity, shrugging as he carefully grasps hold of it’s fragile stem between his teeth, plucking it from its secure grasp within the earth. Twirling the stem carefully with his tongue to get a better hold of the purple flower. Feeling content with his choice as he continues on. Humming a soft tune, enjoying the blissful cool breeze ruffling his pelt.
It amazes Minkbelly at how everything changes constantly yet stays the same. The air was more crisp, the leaves taking on hues of oranges, yellows, and reds, but it was Skyclan all the same. The sounds of nature seems to disappear to him as he slips through the birch trees. Having to duck to bypass low hanging branches, reminding him even more on his growth spurt. Glancing down the bridge of his nose to make sure the flower was still intact. It would have been unfortunate to ruin the lavender aster before laying it down in the shade. Mink was too absorbed with the small daisy looking flower that he didn’t notice that he was not alone.

HEALER || PROPHET
‘Chickweed… Oak leaves….’ Morningpaw had determinedly searched out locations for all the herbs treating greencough in Thunderclan territory, and this was a project she’d been working on for many sunrises. Surprisingly, she wasn’t bored with it and actually enjoyed herb hunting. Though, it brought sore paws and leaden limbs every night. At least she could sleep without pesky dreams haunting her. ‘Maybe I should look for juniper later.’ For now, though, she had another more pressing duty to complete. The golden tabby grinned once she spotted a familiar clump of ferns. Shifting them away, revealing a crown of flowers that’d been carefully woven together by the apprentice. The she-cat dropped another flower next to it and carefully fitted it into the weaving. The crown was mostly twigs bent into a circlet, with flowers braided in to add color and excitement. She’d started working on it earlier that morning when even the stars were watching her, and now she was done. ‘He’ll love it,’ Morningpaw thought with a tiny grin. When didn’t Minkpaw like what she made, though? It was almost in his nature to be kind and caring. She smiled further, expression soft as she picked up the crown.
The tabby walked along a different path, choosing a new pathway each time but the same location. Morningpaw kept walking with a bounce in her step until she saw the hugging tree, and if she had a tail would’ve raised, as if to wave and say hello to the trees. She had taken no more than a step or two before the rustle and crackle of leaves being stepped on caught her attention. Morningpaw froze, eyes narrowing as she dropped into a crouch. She wasn’t a fighter, not at all, but Adderfang had taught her a few things after the fox incident to ensure she knew how to defend herself. Fortunately, Mink’s familiar scent was carried to her nose before she could decide what to do. A squeal, an embarrassing one they won’t be talking about, escaped her lips as she dashed over to the border.
‘Ah… he has changed…’ Mink was still on the lean side, but he’d grown into his frame. He wasn’t as built as a Thunderclan or Riverclan tom, but there was power in his step. The other was taller (no hope of outgrowing him now, then), and his movements held more grace than Morningpaw was familiar with. ‘His smile is the same, and the way he holds his head high is the same,’ she noted, the jolt of anxiety that’d stabbed her soothed by these small observations.
Morningpaw purred, a giggle and a roll of her eyes. “I think my gift might be better.” The Thunderclanner pushed the crown forward. The flowers were an assortment of sunflowers, white chrysanthemums, and little white wildflowers she’d found tucked away under leaves and bushes. The flower crown reflected all the warm colors she associated with her friend, colors that spoke of brightness and joy. “Is that for me?” She gestured to the aster. She knew it was, but she never failed to ask the other before accepting a gift.

Jumping at the sudden high pitched squeal echoing throughout the clearing. Warm honey brown eyes widening, head sharply turning in Morningpaw’s direction as the young warrior was suddenly on high alert. His large paws itching to move, to take action, but he was not even sure if there was danger nearby. Brows furrowing, a cute dumb expression on his sharp features as he soon process’s Morning’s presence, from her golden fur to the pink collar dangling along her small neck. A wide grin spreading along his maw; it almost seemed that his smile would split his face open with how big and bright it was. Looking over his best friend, searching to make sure no other injuries decorated her frame. Last time when he saw her over moons, she had lost majority of her tail from a devilish fox. Humming in approval at seeing her unharmed. With knowing that she was safe and no one was in danger, he lets his tense form lax into his natural posture.
“Geesh Morning! You almost made me drop your flower!” Minkbelly exclaims, nodding his head in a gesture to the lavender aster flower, though to him he believed it to be a purple daisy, close enough right? Heart swelling with unexplainable warmth as he looks down at Morningpaw, it felt refilling to see her again as it felt like forever since he last laid eyes upon her. He could tell that she certainly had matured, her once childish features smoothing out to reveal her feminine character in a new light. Mink was delighted to know he was the only true one that could bring out the real her, that she did not try to hide behind her shy persona when in his presence. Not that he minded when she got all shy and tongue-tied as that just made her all the more enticing.
Lowering his gaze towards the bright innocent looking flower crown. Taking in the shades of yellows and whites from the variety of flowers. “Not gonna lie but the only flower I know on this crown is the sunflower” he sheepishly admits. His voice muffled from the flower still in his mouth, brightening up even more as he leans closer, lowering his cranium to her level. Inwardly smirking as he knows how she gets when he intervenes in her personal space. Carefully placing the delicate flower between her collar, making sure it was secure enough before pulling away. Tilting his head down, giving her a view of the top of his head. “Hey now it’s your turn to put your gift on me” his slim tail flicking in the direction of the flower crown as he patiently waits.
“I have to admit that your gift definitely beats mine” he groans in fake disappointment at having lost their imaginary little bet. “Would have made you a crown as well, but we both know how well that turned out last time” a throaty laugh escapes him at the memory of the poorly made crown that exploded upon being placed on Morningpaw’s head. Flowers, twigs, and twine flinging everywhere around a flabbergasted Morning and a hysterical Mink.
