It was another sunny day in SkyClan, and a gentle breeze swept through their forested territory, rustling the leaves and cooling everyone off as they tried to escape the hot sun. However, in the middle of the clan, there sat a fairly empty fresh kill pile that caught everyone’s negative attention.
A fairly overwhelmed new leader walked up to it and gave it a wistful look. Ever since she had taken the role of leader Blazestar was a bit overwhelmed by all the work she had to take on. Might as well go hunting and take a few moments to myself, she told herself, I trust my warriors enough to leave them for a little while. And so she snuck away from the camp and into the trees.July 4, 2019 at 6:57 pm #2088
Low grumbling escapes the large Maine Coon tomcat as he settles on a flat stone, allowing the warmth of the sun’s rays to soak into his fiery coat. Blinking lazily as he lays his large cranium on his paws, thick fluffy tail flickering in content as Firebird relaxes from his rigorous training earlier that morning. Amber hues wander as he takes in the clearing, eyeing the other cat within camp with mild interest. Yet his gaze stopped once they landed on Blazestar. Narrowing his eyes slightly as he quietly observed his newly appointed leader.
Firebird could sense her tension and mild frustration and maybe even nervousness of becoming the leader and acquiring the responsibilities that come along with such a title. He remained in his lateral position for a few moments as he glanced toward the fresh kill pile that was severely depleted back towards Blazestar only to notice her slipping away from camp. Running his rough pink tongue against his teeth as he contemplated on following as he could easily tell that she wanted to be alone.
Flicking his paper thin ears in frustration, Whatever I’ll just go hunting. It seems that’s what she is worried about anyways. Instead of confronting his leader on her stress, the tom decided to try to help in his one way. Firebird isn’t the most social, but cares for his clan mates just more in a tough love form. Rising swiftly to his paws, muscles rippling with the movement before slipping after Blazestar. Ears perked up as he listened around for his leader as well as prey as hunting is what he intended to do. (Psh he not following her xD)July 6, 2019 at 5:57 pm #2157
Blazestar crept through the forest, stopping every so often to taste the air. It was nice to be out of camp and just act like she was just a warrior for once, not the leader of her clan. She remembered all of the times she had just gone out hunting by herself to clear her mind, something she couldn’t really do now that she had so much responsibility.
Her moment of luck came when the smell of mouse flooded her mouth, and Blazestar turned her head in the direction that it came from. Thankfully she was downwind, so she began to slowly make her way over to the small brown shape that was barely noticeable amongst the undergrowth.
She got into a hunters crouch, but before she could pounce, her attention was drawn to a different scent, the scent of another SkyClan cat. The other cat seemed to also be upwind, so there was certainly a possibility they were hunting the same mouse, but that was a possibility that she could ignore. Suddenly, there was a snap, and the mouse took off in the opposite direction.
“Fox-dung!” Blaze growled before taking off after her prey. But before she could get far, she ran into something and fell back to the ground with a thud. The she-cat looked up to see what she ran into and found herself looking at another orange cat. “Oh dear StarClan! I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to run into you. Are you alright?” she stammered nervously, giving the tom a worried look.July 6, 2019 at 7:25 pm #2160
The large tom silently prowls through the territory, making sure his paw steps were quiet. Ears perked, twitching constantly at the noises surrounding him. Taunting him to catch prey, yet the skilled hunter couldn’t sense any movement near by. Mostly just birds singing their afternoon songs to the painted sky. Amber hues flickering upwards as he looks through the slip of the tree branches and leaves, eyes squinting at the faint light peaking through with hues of warm yellows. A soft sigh of content left his maw at the calming sight, hunting and training where pass times of his when he needed to blow of steam or calm his erratic thoughts.
Shaking himself out of his stupor, deciding he needed to concentrate more on hunting than sight seeing. There was a reason why he was out here after all. Firebird wasn’t truly sure why he had decided to go out hunting due to seeing Blazestar looking distressed over the decreasing pile, but for some reason it had bugged him enough to get him moving. Slipping pass the trees, ducking under low branches with ease. Lips parting as he lets all the scents around him in. Tasting it on his salmon tongue, pupils turning into slits as the scent of a mouse was the most prominent of them all. Perfect..Firebird thought with a smirk as he finally had a target. The fiery Maine Coon was so focus on the mouse that he had mentally disregarded the scent of warm cup of lemon ginger tea with honey, which just so happened to be Blazestar.
Feathery white whiskers twitching, shoulders rolling as he stalks his prey. Crouching low as he follows the scent and the scurrying of the mouse. Yet, it would seem that he was not the only feline stalking the mouse. Firebird found that out the hard way. Tip of his fluffy tail flicking as the mouse was in sight, but he never got to pounce as he felt something or someone ram right into the tall muscular tomcat. The audible Oof leaves his lips as he lands on his rump. Furrowing his brows at the mild pain coursing through his body, looking over at the other fallen feline with a scowl. Firebird wasn’t amused as he watched Blazestar stutter her apology, at first the irked tom was just going to stalk away in search of more prey, but decided against being so rude. An long sigh leaving his flared nostrils as he rises back to his paws in a steady stance. Tilting his cranium as he looked down at the ginger she-cat before shrugging his shoulders and flicking his tail. “It’s fine..” he muttered before adding “there is no need to apologize as I too am at fault” He begrudgingly admitted as he soon realized that he hadn’t even noticed that she was near until he laid sprawled on the ground.July 9, 2019 at 6:54 pm #2232
Blazestar quickly scrambled into a sitting position and licked her chest fur in embarassment. If cats could blush, her face would probably be bright red at that moment. “I haven’t hunted in a long time. I guess I just forgot how to, huh?” The she-cat joked, giving a nervous chuckle. You’re supposed to be setting an example for your clan as a leader, not making a fool of yourself, she thought bitterly, her tail tip twitching subtly in frustration. “Well, um. I suppose I’ll go now. Sorry again for slamming into you,” she murmured quietly before standing up and turning around to walk away.July 9, 2019 at 10:18 pm #2240
The fiery ginger arches a brow as he watches the molly before him shift around in embarrassment, though the tomcat wouldn’t admit it but he was a bit miffed himself for not noticing that another feline was nearby also hunting. What was worse that he should have known due to have seen her slip away to go hunting few moments prior to him going on a mission to hunt as well. Chewing on the inside of his cheek as he felt somewhat responsible for her sudden sheepishness of the situation. His thick pelt still disheveled from his little tumble, yet the tall feline made no move to try to fix his appearance. Left ear flicking as he tried to think of what to say to ease Blazestar’s nerves, she was a leader, but he also needed to respect that everything was new to her, that she hasn’t at time to grasp the newness of her title and explore becoming the leader that she was meant to be.
“Hmm..” He hummed in thought, “It would seem that we need to change that, don’t we?” He questioned with a slight grin tugging at his black rubbery hues lips. Shifting his weight as the Maine Coon turns around, his burnt amber eyes taking in his surroundings with fascination. This is the first time in a while that Firebird has really stopped to enjoy life as he tended to keep himself busy with training, it was a stress outlet for him. Padding away from Blazestar, rolling his amber eyes in small amusement, looking over his shoulder. Tilting his cranium to the side as he gives her a small huff of impatience. “Well since we are both out here with the same goal, we might as well hunt together” he stated matter-of-factly, his voice deep and smooth as his amber hues locked onto hers, awaiting for her reply.

Before she could start walking away, Blazestar was interrupted by Firebird’s offer to go hunting together. She turned back around and tilted her head at him before giving a small nod of agreement. “That sounds like a good idea.” the orange molly replied, giving a small smile, “and besides, we’ll catch more prey if we work together.” And with that, she walked up to the tom so she was standing beside him, and began to make the trek deeper into the territory. It wasn’t long before the two of them were in the birch forest, and she slowed down to a halt in order to taste the air. She didn’t sense anything at first, but it wasn’t long before she heard chirping coming from above and noticed the smell of bird nearby. She moved her gaze up and to the right and noticed a small shape hopping between the branches of one of the birch trees. Being careful not to shake the trunk and alert the bird to her presence, she began to ascend the tree.
Blazestar got to up to a branch below the bird and sat still, waiting for it to stop moving around. Then in one big motion, she pounced, trapping the bird between her front claws, finishing it off with a bite to the neck, and using her hind legs to keep herself steady on the branch so she wouldn’t fall. Once she was sure she wasn’t going to drop to her death, the she-cat picked up the bird in her jaws and started to make her way back down to the ground. She jumped down the last few tail-lengths and landed in front of Firebird, dropping her catch so she could speak to him. “I’m going to go ahead and bury this; you can find another thing to catch while I’m doing that.” She told him, beginning to dig at the dirt beneath her paws.July 15, 2019 at 6:43 pm #2424
Nodding towards Blazestar, he was pleasantly surprised that she had agreed to go hunting with him. Especially since he can come off as cold when really firebird isn’t one to know how to properly express his emotions. Flicking his long sandstone colored tail as he allows her to lead their little hunting expedition. Muffled sounds could be heard with his large paws pressing against the dry grass as they ventured further into the birch forest. Cranium moving slightly as his blazing amber eyes take in the ashen bark and the lively green leaves that littered the branches. The familiar sights where calming to the tom, pausing once he noticed Blazestar had stopped also. Just when he was about to question her on her reasoning, chirping caused him to close his maw. Realizing that she had found her prey, he decided it was time for him to stop slacking off and to actually do what he had set off to do in the beginning.
Moving several feet away from his companion as he didn’t want to disrupt her hunt. Closing his eyes as he relaxes his stiff posture, ears perked up as he eagerly listens to his surroundings. Searching for a living creature to give up its life in order for his clanmates to live. It was a circle of life in a way, every living creature had a purpose in this world; whether they believed in Starclan or not. Lips parting, letting the many scents rush in, clinging to his salmon pink tongue. The most prominent scent that stuck out to him was a squirrel not far from where he stood. Opening his eyes, taking one last look at Blazestar, seeing her pounce skillfully towards the bird before moving away. His shoulder blades rolling underneath his thick pelt as he lowers himself to the ground and follows the distinct smell of the squirrel.
It would seem he was in luck as his target had yet taken refuge in the trees, it would have made things slightly more difficult but not by much. Sticking downwind, not wanting his scent to alert his prey. Lowly himself even more to the earth, ignoring his underbelly brushing against the dirt. Unsheathing his sharp claws, digging into the grass and soil as he readies himself to make a move. The poor creature had no idea what was to come, as it was too busy scurrying for nuts on the forest floor. Waiting patiently for the perfect moment, ears flickering over in Blazestar’s direction hearing her finish her kill and begin to hide the bird. Brows arching as the squirrel turns its back on him, giving him the perfect opening. Bingo. He thought with a smirk, putting weight and pressure on his hind legs. Muscles straining before launching himself in the air in a perfect hunter strike. Claws catching against his prey, pinning it down and sinking his fangs into the throat of the squirrel. Crushing the windpipe with ease, huffing as he unclenches his jaw, releasing his hold on the limp creature.
“I thank you. Your spirit will run with Starclan, while your body will remain and become part of the Clan to help them prosper.” He muttered before also hiding his catch from unwanted predators. Moving away as he heads back to the ginger molly, giving a small smile. “Ready to continue?” He wondered.July 24, 2019 at 8:53 pm #2638
Blazestar finished putting the last of the dirt on her kill before turning to look at Firebird as he pounced on his own prey, a squirrel scurrying around on the forest floor. “Nice catch!” she purred, trying to be as friendly as possible. The tom was definitely a tough nut to crack, and she hoped that she would be able to break through that hard shell to get to the cat inside. And besides, if I’m going to choose a new deputy, it’s probably in my best interest to try to get closer to those I might choose, she thought, trying not to let her worry show on her face. “Yes, let’s continue on,” the tabby responded when Firebird suggested they continue, starting to trek through the forest again. The duo walked in silence for a bit before Blazestar decided to speak up. “The weather is perfect for hunting today,” she remarked, looking around at the foliage around her. “It’s a shame that we haven’t been doing many hunting patrols recently. But hey, at least we’re out here, huh?” All she was saying was meaningless small talk, but she wasn’t looking for a deep conversation; she just wanted to try and get a feel for what he was like in order to make sure she was making the right decision. Blaze didn’t let her focus shift from the task at hand though, and she made sure to stay on the lookout for any other prey.

A small nod in the ginger mollies direction as she agreed with him to continue on. Moving forward in silence for a few moments was blissful not awkward as the tall fiery ginger tom felt more relax within Blazestar’s presence than when they had first encountered one another on their hunting expedition. His ears twitching as he glances down at his paws in slight discomfort at her praise of his catch, not completely use to attention. Clearing his throat as it suddenly got dry, eyeing her in the corner on his eye as he gives her a barely visible smile, “Thank you, your catch was very impressive as well” Firebird compliments with ease though his posture was slightly stiff that showed his awkwardness of the conversation. He was starting to learn that Blazestar is a feline with a caring personality, but could also sense that she tended to let her nerves get the best of her at times. Though Firebird didn’t believe it hindered her at all in being the greatest leader that she could be, yet maybe with time he would be able to see her true colors if he allowed himself to become close to others.
For reasons unknown; Firebird had never been the most social or open feline within the clan as he tended to leave that up to his younger brother; Honeysplash. He never had a real reason to completely open up to another cat around him besides his brother. Yet; he never let that stop him in his duties to protect his clan, as he knew when to push emotions to the side to put what needed to be done before anything else. Gladly he had never had to make such a decision, but the Maine Coon was always on alert for such things to occur. Blinking away his thoughts as a soft voice penetrated his ears; catching his attention. Furrowing his kitty brows at the sudden shift of conversation to the weather, almost finding the situation comical but decided to play along in the area of small talk. Humming in agreement as he takes a quick look around, enjoying the faint sunlight peeking through the wooden canopy, warming his fiery pelt and causing it to look like it was blazing aflame. “Yes I would have to agree. Perfect weather for hunting. I also enjoy the peacefulness, gives you time to think when it’s needed” he found himself adding with a sigh. Lips parting ever so slightly as he remained on alert for any prey nearby while continuing his conversation. “Definitely will have to get some of these cats butts in gear to get some hunting done. But, yes at least we are off to a good start” he smirked as he mentioned the other cats within the clan lazing about back at camp.August 19, 2019 at 4:25 pm #2750
Blazestar immediately sensed the tom’s awkwardness with the small talk, but his comment about the laziness of the clan impressed her. He certainly has the mind of a deputy, she thought to herself. The tom’s closed off nature didn’t bother her all too much; one could be shy and be a good fit for a leadership position at the same time. StarClan knows she was pretty shy when she was first appointed deputy. She let the conversation die for a moment as she searched for more prey, not wanting to be distracted and miss something as she walked. The she-cat stopped in her tracks as she heard the scuffling of another squirrel nearby, and turned her head in the direction of the sounds. “Perfect,” she murmured as she noticed that the rodent was busy snacking on a nut. It was an easy catch, it didn’t notice her sneaking up on it until it was under her paws. She thanked StarClan for the kill and buried it in the soil beneath a nearby tree. “Alright, lets see what else is around here.” Blazestar mused as she walked back over to Firebird.
