The birds in the wood had already started their song, various shrieks and chirps ringing out. They were likely the very culprits who woke the sun this morning. It blushed shades of red and gold as it stretched it’s paws across the sky. Adderface is awake to see this, for once, as he is out of his nest a bit earlier than usual. There’s a hustle and bustle in the camp, preparations for patrols and organized hunts in the land. Usually this tom would be snoring through it all.
Last night he thought he would never go to sleep. Much too excited for today and all he had planned. As an apprentice, he remembered looking out beyond the borders for the first time, seeing those who live outside his home. His curiosity proved to get the better of him many times later but oh she just had to witness it! Best to start early or they would never finish in time!
Adderface gives a good look-around for his apprentice, wondering if she was up yet. If so, who’d have thought a warrior like himself would have such an early bird for an apprentice? He would approach her immediately, toothy grin on his mug. “Are you ready?” his meow wouldn’t give it away but the shine in his jade green eyes would reveal his excitement right away.
Though, if she weren’t already up and about, he would turn to the apprentice’s den. “Rise and shine, Morningpaw!” he would call, greeted with hisses and grumbles from other sleeping young cats. “Big day today!”April 28, 2020 at 10:45 am #6228PheebsParticipant
Morningpaw sat in her nest, thick tail wrapped around her paws and huddled in the back of the collection of nests. She’d woken up fairly early, still buzzing with excitement after seeing Minkpaw only a few days prior, and had decided to simply sit and wait for Adderface to retrieve her. Morningpaw would have to thank her brother for going out hunting for so long, long enough for Adder to believe her when she had told him she’d been out with him (when Morning had actually been by the SkyClan border). Speaking of Adderface…
“Big day today!” Morningpaw’s ears perked up, her head jerking around to Adderface in surprise. Standing up quickly the apprentice wove through the other nests, some with sleeping (or formerly sleeping) apprentices, and placed herself at her mentor’s side. If she was being completely honest Morning was confused by the mentor she’d been given, seeing as there were few similarities to be found between the two.
“H-hi,” she mumbled. The stutter that usually accompanied her words was bound to go away after a few minutes spent in Adder’s company, but for now it remained firmly in place. “Wh-what are we d-d-doing, t-today?” Morningpaw inquired, big azure eyes looking up at her mentor, shining with curiosity and a hint of anxiety.April 29, 2020 at 11:31 pm #6247turnipParticipant
He stepped back to allow her room to leave the den, his long striped tail flicking idly behind him. Her question pulled Adderface to stand straight up, tall ears to attention. “Well, Morningpaw,” he began as if he rehearsed these words at least a dozen times. “You are long overdue for a tour of the forest. And as your mentor, I will be your guide.”
The tomcat looked to the sky for a moment. Newleaf has been gracious this go-’round, with blue skies and warm sunshine. Though he wouldn’t doubt a forecast of rain later, which may work in their favor. “Best if we leave now or we won’t be able to see everything,” he meowed to Morningpaw. A smile lingered on his face before he suddenly spun around and raced out of the camp. “Try to keep up!” he called back with a laugh. The earth thundering under his paws felt heavenly the further from home he ran.
Trees whirred by; he slowed only to make sure his apprentice was close. First point, the border shared with Riverclan. The fishy smell strengthening as they drew near, as did the sound of rushing streams.May 1, 2020 at 11:16 am #6257PheebsParticipant
Morningpaw blinked rapidly, eyes sparking with surprise and a touch of worry. We’re going to go by the SkyClan border… She quickly shook off her feelings of anxiety in exchange for excitement , following her mentor at a fast pace before breaking out into a run. Slowing down Morningpaw tilted her head towards the border.
“How do Riverclanners stand the smell?” She asked curiously, not to be rude but more out of sheer befuddlement. Morningpaw briefly entertained the idea that Riverclanners were nose blind, but that was probably wrong. “And how can they swim?” Morning twisted her neck around to eye the land across the border, shaking her head as the fishy smell became too much. With time she may grow accustomed to the smell, this Morningpaw knew, but the pale gold molly knew that wasn’t happening any time soon so she resigned herself to breathing in the smell. Morning remembered her mother telling her how she used to eat fish as a kittypet, that had been weird to hear as a kit, and the memory of her mother only managed to make the apprentice frown. A paw gently tapped against the flat metal surface of her collar’s tag, the collar her mother had worn and now Morning wore.
