Speckledpaw, being relatively new, was only aware of a few herbs and treatments. For now Saffrongaze found it imperative that she learned the differences between each herb, and how they worked, and how to administer them to the clan and when to do so. At current moment, the tortoiseshell molly was at work shifting and sorting through herbs, while Saffrongaze was away, busy as a bee, making check ins on their fellow clanmates to gauge the overall health of their clan, as well as go gather more herbs if she saw the need.

“Let’s see this is…” Speckledpaw muttered to herself, as she came across a a clutch of berries, they were black, “These aren’t technically herbs, they’re berries, but uh… they’re used to help with beestings. I’m sure I’d have to crush the berries, then make a poultice out of it, apply it to where the cat was stung. These would go with the other berries.”

She gathered them up by the stem carefully, and placed them into the pile of other assorted berries that she’d already compiled besides her. “Blackberries are safe to eat as a yummy treat, but don’t eat too much, or else you’ll get a stomach ache. So it’s better that they’re used for treatment, or sparingly as a small treat for kits and apprentices who are unruly and refuse to eat other herbs. Just tell them they can have a blackberry after they swallow the herbs.”

She was well aware she was talking to herself, though that was her way of keeping all the treatments and uses fresh in her mind. That way, once Saffrongaze did return, she could list off the information she’d retrained. She had to keep everything fresh in her mind, sorting was just that, a way to exercise her mind, so she’d remember what she was told.

“Now this is…. and this…. that must go there.” She continued to mutter to herself as she sorted.

    Firebird ~ Skyclan Deputy

Sighing as he slowly makes his way toward the Medicine Cat’s den, his fiery ember eyes flickering around lazily as he takes his time. The cold chill of the breeze ruffling his thick pelt plus the sunlight’s rays shining down on his fiery and sandstone ginger fur felt amazing. The deputy was in no rush to make it to the Medicine den, as the only reason why he was even heading in that direction was because of Saffrongaze herself requesting that he check up on her young apprentice while she was away. Rolling his eyes as he did not know why she was so worried about Speckledpaw when she was safely within the confinement’s of the den that smells of herbs twenty-four/seven. Now the large Maine Coon could have easily denied being a baby sitter of sorts, but he needed to earn the trust of his clanmates little by little. Hopefully this one small deed would point him in the right direction in gaining Saffrongaze’s respect and trust back. Of course he had noticed the hesitance he received not only from her but several felines around camp as well. It irked him to no tomorrow, yet all he could do is be patient and hope that everything falls back into place.

The soft grass and soil felt soothing against his sore paws as he pads through the suddenly wide clearing, it felt larger than it ever had been. Maybe it was because of the several trees that had been knocked down during the horrid storm or maybe due to his laid back pace. This was the first time in a long while that he felt at peace. He could give a damn right now at what everyone thought of him and his actions at the gathering, he knew what he did was reckless and disrespectful, but he did not regret it. He was taking responsibility in his actions, but he could not dwell on what had occurred any longer. Tufted paper-thin ears perking up and flicking in the direction of Speckledpaw as he hears faint mutters coming within the den. Brows pinching together in confusion as he wondered who she could be talking to with Saffron away.

Making his paw steps lighter as he silently approaches with curiosity. Stopping at the opening of the den, letting his muscular frame lean against the arch way, scanning the den in search for two figures, only to find one. Arching a kitty brow in amusement as he soon figures that the muttering hadn’t been the apprentice talking to someone, but rather herself as she talked herself through how to organize the herbs and berries accordingly. “It would seem that you are settling in well” his deep and smooth voice carried out easily through the den. He remained were he stood as he watches the tortoiseshell molly. Firebird  already had a feeling on how she would react to him, if her actions at the gathering wasn’t reminder enough. Her panicked voice often rang through his head as a reminder that he was the cause of her fear.

The fur on Speckledpaw’s spine rose up ever so slightly, when a voice reached her through her concentration, the voice shattered it into a million little pieces. Leaving Speckledpaw with a sense of apprehension, she knew that voice, she’d heard it booming out in protest at the Gathering not too long ago. Startled, she nearly knocked over her pile, when she turned to face Firebird, the feisty Skyclan deputy, who had already voiced his displeasure of Non-Clan born cats.

Speckledpaw felt her heart sink into the darkest pits of her stomach, as she stared up at him with eyes as wide as the moon. Her entire body was as stiff as an icicle, hanging precariously over a long drop off. A lump formed in her throat, and she swallowed it down, and a timid grin slowly stretched itself across her maw. “A-Ah, F-Firebird, hello! What brings you here? Are you… ah… ill or hurt?”

She couldn’t begin to fathom why the deputy would be paying the Medicine Cat’s den such an abrupt visit, unless he had come down with something, or if he’d somehow injured himself. At any rate, if it was just a mild illness or small injuries, she could deal with those on her own just fine. However, if it was something much more serious, she’d have to go find her mentor to help her deal with it.

    Firebird ~ Skyclan Deputy

Pursing his black rubbery hued lips as he silently observes the easily startled medicine cat apprentice, his cold ember eyes staring at the young feline. He could care less that he had caused the newly clan-life she-cat to become afraid, to him she needed to learn that clan life was not all that it was cracked up to be. Sure, he knows that he went too far at the gathering weeks prior, but he did not regret his actions. Kass needed to be put in her place, openly disrespecting the leaders and starclan itself had irked the fiery tom to no end. Firebird was dealing with the consequences fairly well, it still irked him that he was on apprenticeship duties, but that punishment was soon to be over. Honeysplash definitely would not let the Maine Coon forget his punishment anytime soon, one thing he hated about having a brother, always mocking him on his ‘apprenticeship duties’.  Sighing as Speckledpaw finally acknowledged his presence, arching his brow as she stumbles over her words, questioning on why he was in the medicine den.

“Do I have to have a reason?” he countered simply, though he indeed did have a reason for venturing into the strongly scented den of herbs. Saffrongaze had wanted him to check up on her apprentice while she went in search from herbs that he couldn’t remember the names of. Firebird could have easily denied her, but he also needed to get the cut on his side checked, an injury he received during his fall when Kass shoved him off the boulder. Rolling his shoulders, releasing tension that was slowly starting to build up in his muscular form. Shoving off the wooden archway as he slips further into the den, having to duck when entering the archway due to his tall form. Grunting softly before standing back to his full height, turning in Speckledpaw’s direction before speaking up once again. “I am just hear to check up on you for Saffrongaze and to get my left side checked. She informed me that you could do basic medicine healing” he answered, though he gaze her a skeptical look in regards if she was even competent enough to treat his wound. Letting his gaze scrutinizing the den around him, the stacks of herbs organized chaotically around them, though it suited the den verily well.
