Smokewisp – Shadowclan Deputy
The shrill cries of birdsong echoed eerily through the forest. The plant life was lush and green from the recent floodwaters. The murky water, which had filled Shadowclan’s camp, had finally receded. Although all of their bedding and left-behind items had been washed away the forest had been renewed. It was a bittersweet blessing.
A heavy fog, which had rolled in with the dawn, clung to the air. It was nearly noon and had yet to depart.
Smokewisp padded along, grimacing as dew slicked grass soaked her belly and paws. Finally, she was having a long overdue training session with Skunkpaw. He wouldn’t be an apprentice for much longer and today would be a test of his skills. Two others accompanied them: Fearedjackel and his new apprentice, Redpaw. The young apprentice bounded along, clearly excited to begin his training. Having their company would be pleasant, and perhaps seeing an older apprentice would have a positive impression on Redpaw.
She halted, staring into the inky depths of the tunnel beside her. The faint sound of rushing water could be heard within. ‘It might not be completely safe,’ she thought with concern. Flooding often happened within the tunnels connecting their territory. But, the last flood had been unusually dangerous. “As you all know, the floods washed a great deal of debris into the tunnels. Today, we’ll be investigating the damage and potentially clearing some pathways. The tunnels are vital to navigating our territory, whether it be for patrols or evacuation,” she addressed the group. “Skunkpaw, it’ll be your responsibility to lead us through the tunnels. Guide us to the territory’s northern border.” She smiled at him, knowing he’d do well. It was a warrior’s task, but he was ready.November 16, 2019 at 8:11 pm #3858
The illness had changed something in Skunkpaw, maybe it was that he finally realized how serious illness can be or perhaps realizing how easily life can be taken. Training was the last thing the hefty tom cared about, even getting a warrior name seemed pointless at this point; but he knew that Smokewisp blamed herself for his incident and Skunkpaw was ready to do anything to make her feel better-even train. The smokey molly had barely sent him on any patrols since their time back, mostly having him to small in camp jobs so the fact that she actually brought him outside of camp today must’ve meant she was feeling better; at least that’s what he told himself.
As the patrol came to a stop he took that time to see the damage done to his long black and white pelt. His large paws soaked to the bone along with the ends of his belly fur, a small nose twitch being the only sign of his discomfort. Hornetstar had specially ordered that no cat was to enter the tunnels until they were cleared so it came as a surprise to him when Smokewisp announced their assignment was going in there. Sure the three of them would be fine but Redpaw? He was just barely an apprentice, was this the safest mission for him? His muzzle met Smokewisp ear, “Are you sure about Redpaw?” After getting confirmation from his mentor he turned to the others.
If he was going to lead this group of misfits he was going to take charge on everything. Gaze traveling from the tall tom Fearedjackel, to his smokey mentor over to the smaller apprentice. “Fearedjackel you mind taking the rear? Redpaw behind me and Smokewisp following suit.” His eyes landing on his mentor looking for conformation. His reasoning simple Skunkpaw was the heaviest of he could walk without any issues then the lighter ones could and being the second tallest could feel any air coming in from the ground above hinting at weak points; Fearedjackel was the tallest, he could be the first to feel his the tunnel was going to collapse behind them if Skunkpaw missed it; Redpaw was there for experience and was smaller if he needed to squeeze into somewhere to clear the path; and finally Smokewisp, his reasoning for her a bit more selfish, he just didn’t want her to get hurt.

Fearedjackal ~ ShadowClan Warrior
Grunting softly, dark blue eyes narrowed in on the small form of Redpaw as the small apprentice was bustling with boundless amounts of energy, keeping up with the older and larger cats with ease. Fearedjackal hadn’t exactly wanted another apprentice just yet, having barely gotten over the recent death of his mate and the fact that HornetStar had sprung the surprise on him at the ceremony itself.. he wasn’t exactly the happiest of toms. However, he had never shown Redpaw his discomfort, although to a more trained eye others could probably see his un-wanting behavior to be a mentor at the time being. He guessed Smokewisp had seen some of his behavior as she had invited himself and Redpaw to a buddy system training event, which he just happened to dislike as well. Redpaw had of course overhead and before he could shut down the molly with the proposal, Redpaw had so eagerly requested that the pair joined Smokewisp and Skunkpaw. So here he was, trailing after the three cats with an almost sour expression on his face, seeming uninterested in the transpiring events.
Ears perked slightly when he heard Smokewisp speak, although he wasn’t exactly thrilled to be surrounding by other cats, he did feel a slight prickle at his self consciousness of Smokewisp allowing the older apprentice to take lead, feeling a bit worried for his young apprentice. Redpaw was too young to notice the dangers of a collapsing den, let alone a tunnel. Pupils narrowing slightly as he looked between Skunkpaw and Smokewisp, feeling uncertain of the apprentice’s ability to lead them through the tunnel, however it was not his call nor his will to challenge. He certainly was the tallest out of the three cats, although Skunkpaw was fairly tall, both seemingly to be just as broad with muscle. Although, he did note that he was the only cat within the group whose belly fur was still dry, untouched from the morning dew that covered the early morning grass. “Alright.” He meowed dryly, knowing the exact purpose of why he was being told to take up the rear, it was smart and he wasn’t going to argue. Looking down at Redpaw, the large black tomcat gave the smaller Tom a small wink of encouragement, although with how excited he already looked, perhaps he didn’t need it. “Listen to Skunkpaw and don’t hit the tunnel walls.” He warned the young apprentice, flicking his ear in satisfaction as he moved to take up the rear of the group, his dark eyes catching Smokewisp’s as he passed. “Hopefully they aren’t flooded.” He grumbled, not liking small confined areas, but he also didn’t like the idea of getting soaked and stopped because of a flooded tunnel, although Skunkpaw should be advanced in his training to catch the scent of the water under ground as they walked.
Moving to where he was now standing behind Smokewisp, his dark blue eyes watching the mouth of the tunnel for a moment, the fur along his back standing up just a wee bit before his dark gaze shifted to look at Skunkpaw. Clearly this was a test to see how far along the young Tom had come, although Fearedjackal still didn’t see why it had to be underground. Grunting faintly, his ear twitched in a silent protest of journeying through the tunnels, so soon after the flood waters had supposedly receded. Looking down slightly to take in the pelt of Redpaw, his apprentice was near soaked from the dew but his expression held curiosity that could lighten the heart of even the coldest of warriors, keeping that thought to himself he released a sigh and willed for this wee trip to be over with.

A patrol! Or rather a joint training session, as Deputy Smokewisp called it. Well, whatever it was, Redpaw was just plain old excited for it. Mister Fearedjackal had almost said no, the little tom knew, so he hadn’t hesitated to beg for this little excursion to happen. Naturally, his mentor had gave in and said they could go. So the whole way to the tunnel entrance, the red splotched tabby hadn’t been able to keep the pep out of his step. He was practically skipping, fully uncaring of the dew clinging to his thick pelt and trying to weigh him down. He was as light as a feather as he followed the older cats, without a care in the world.
When they made it to the tunnel’s he halted with a shy smile on his lips, practically quivering with his excitement. Though old enough to have been born and raised in the tunnel camp, he hadn’t gotten to explore much of the tunnels before the storm flooded him. And now that they had set up camp elsewhere, there wasn’t much use for the tunnels anymore. Of course they were still a plan of evacuation if need be, but that was about it. “Skunkpaw gets to lead? Awesome! He’ll get to see all the cool stuff first,” the wiry apprentice stated, peering into the darkened tunnel even if he couldn’t see very far. Then, without any prompting, he fell into line between Skunkpaw and Deputy Smokewisp, more than ready to get a move on.November 17, 2019 at 9:01 pm #3925
Roachpaw~ Shadowclan Apprentice
Boredom. That’s what Roachpaw felt as his mentor and leader was too busy with dealing with the destruction of camp to pay much attention to his needy apprentice. That gave the tall lanky tom a lot of free time on his paws, as sadly Skunkpaw has been too busy with Hareflight or trying to impress his mentor. Scoffing at the thought as he easily slips out of the make-shift camp before dawns light could shine upon them. If he wanted to sneak about and roam, the cover of the night was his best bet. Sunflower yellow eyes flickering around the dark forest around him, large paws lightly pressing against the softened earth as he takes in the changes that the storm had caused. He made sure to be careful climbing over fallen logs and ducking under half snapped branches. As his time as an apprentice, he had learned his way about Shadowclan territory. Hornetstar might not know of his little excursions that he often made, and if he did, the leader never mentioned it.
Long tail swishing side to side with excitement as he was heading to his favorite place to roam and explore; the tunnels. Of course he knew about what the flooding had done, but whispers in the air had informed him of the belief that the water had receded, but how far? That’s what Roachpaw wanted to find out. The 11 moon apprentice had enough common sense to know that he needed to be careful once he entered, especially since he technically was not suppose to be exploring on his own. Roachpaw wanted to know how the tunnels were, the one places he spent hours exploring and memorizing during his free time. The dark furred tom had slipped away from camp even before the small patrol consisting of Smokewisp, Skunkpaw, Fearedjackal, and Redpaw were to get set off for the tunnels.
Moving gracefully, ignoring the morning dew clinging to his paws. Crickets chirping echoed in the cool night, fireflies flickering like balls of light in every direction. His eyes glowing in the dim light before pausing at the entrance of the dark and dreary tunnels. Ears prickling as he listens for anything around him or the tunnels before taking a deep breath and slipping in. Muscles slightly tense, though he felt almost at home if it weren’t for the shallow pools of water licking at his paws. Wrinkling his nose before trekking further in, fur rising at the cold chill that was settled in the air. His light breathing could faintly be heard as it bounced of the tunnel walls. Blinking several times as he lets his gaze adjust to the permanent dark. Furrowing his brows at the twigs and stones that littered the path. Carefully he maneuvers himself through without disturbing the silence around him.
Roachpaw had been exploring the tunnels for over an hour when he decided to make his way back when he heard it. Someone was about to enter the tunnels. Pressing his slick black form against the darkest shadows, letting the darkness cloak him to where he would not be detected, his scent being masked by the earthly tones around him. Roachpaw waits and listens with intrigue as he could sense that they were friends and not foe.November 17, 2019 at 10:23 pm #3931
Smokewisp – Shadowclan Deputy
Smokewisp gave Skunkpaw a reassuring nod, ‘Well done, although maybe a biased order.’
Naturally, Skunkpaw would be required to lead the patrol as their navigator. Selecting Fearedjackal to defend the rear was a wise choice. The dark tom would be able to keep a watchful eye on his apprentice as well. Her own placement, she noted, was the least dangerous. She suppressed a wry smirk, ‘Alright, I see how it is.’
Of course, she had briefly checked the tunnels during the previous day. She didn’t want to test her apprentice blindly, after all. The tunnel walls were dry while the floors remained tacky, even muddy in some areas. The cave-in risk was quite low. But, there was a great deal of debris left behind. There were even some strange, shiny two-leg objects lying about.
Smokewisp looked over at Fearedjackel and Redpaw, giving them a reassuring smile. “It’ll be fine, just stick close. If you need to pause for a moment tell Skunkpaw. I’ll claw his tail if he doesn’t give us a break,” she laughed lightly. “Shall we get going?” She hid her excitement, but this was a day she’d long been waiting for. Skunkpaw had done well in his warrior training and today would be his opportunity to prove his skills. He’d soon be a warrior, even if he didn’t know it yet.November 17, 2019 at 10:51 pm #3932
He had to admit watching the others fall in line behind him, listening to his orders, did strike a small cord of motivation back into the tom. Whiskers even daring to twitch in amusement at Redpaw bounding into position without objecting, something he knew a lot of apprentices would have done. Ever since the early days of his apprenticeship the hefty feline always preferred taking the rear of patrols, preferring to take his time and observe his surroundings. Due to his size hunting and fighting weren’t his specialities, never being quite able to distribute his weight properly, but tracking on the other paw, he could get down with and some might say he even enjoyed it. His face dropping when he turned towards Redpaw, who suggested Skunkpaw being first was awesome, his tail tip flicking the smaller toms nose, “Or I’ll be the first to die, who knows,” his gaze turning to the older warriors, casting a playful grin their way.
Turning about to the mission ahead Skunkpaw gave himself a quiet pep talk before his body began slowly disappearing into the darkened tunnels, his large body slowly blending into the shadows. Giving his eyes a few moments to adjust before he moved deeper into the tunnels, taking instant note of the soften ground beneath his paws, not quite as soft and slippery as mud but still not solid enough to be considered ‘safe’. His voice low and clear when he spoke, “Watch your footing, it’s not slippery, yet, but I’d imagine it’ll get worse as we move on.”With his warning out of the way, Skunkpaw trekked on, his paws growing gross with mud and dirt the further in they went.
Skunkpaw knew the tunnels well, like any other Shadowclanner, they were once his home and being in them again felt almost peaceful to the stress ridden tom. Though with the flood waters most of the homey scent of individual felines disappeared the overall smell still reeked of the marshy clan cats. With all the new added scents it was quite difficult to pick up on anything other than wet stank, an enemy could be right in front of their noses and it’d still be hard to place. His tail pressing against the tom behind him, a simple “wait” being all he said when they reached a split in the tunnels, moving on ahead slightly to try and figure out which way he wanted to go; and what would be the safest route to travel.

Roachpaw~ Shadowclan Apprentice
Pale yellow hues glistening with mischief as he remains pressed against the dry dirt wall, ignoring the dirt crumbling onto his obsidian pelt. Paws sinking into into the softened and slightly damp soil wedged it’s way in between his toes, but he didn’t move a muscle. His strongest talent had to be stealth, he was a master in using his environment to his advantage. Ears twitching in the direction of the voices, arching a kitty brow as he was able to pick out Skunkpaw’s distinctive voice, and it seemed like he was leading. A small smirk pulling at the corner of his lips as a plan formed in his mind. Sure he knew that if Skunkpaw was here then Smokewisp was bound to be near, not that it would stop him from having a little fun. Roachpaw was further down the right tunnel, and if he wanted to intercept the little patrol group and scare his fellow apprentice, he would need to move silently and efficiently. Keeping his breath steady as he carefully makes his way toward the entrance of the shorter tunnel. Paws pressing almost nonexistent on the earth below as he slowly moves. Ears pinned against his cranium, feathery white whiskers twitching as he senses their presence creeping closer and closer.
His heart rate picking up speed, but still within normal limits as excitement prickled in his black fur. Slim tail sticking up as to make sure it didn’t drag against the ground and give away his position. Now considering the circumstances, many would be impressed with his skill of stealth, except he was using a skill he had formed by sneaking out many times or exploring the tunnels for hours when Hornetstar was busy, so he knew that there wouldn’t be a way to be caught, to cause a little chaos. Licking his dry lips as he avoids patches of light, barely any flickers of disturbance could be noted as he settles at the entrance. Letting his tall lanky form press against the wall once more waiting for the perfect moment to pounce. Rolling his shoulders, his gaze trained on the bulky form of Skunkpaw as the black and white tom cat moves into the exact position that Roachpaw had calculated.
Putting all his weight onto his hind legs before launching himself at Skunkpaw. His sheathed paws hitting his shoulders as he knocks him over with a light thud. A proud smirk on his muzzle, eyes twinkling in glee. “Boo” he whispered with a deep chuckle as he stares down at his friend that always seems to ditch him for a certain medicine cat; cough cough-Haleflight. Let’s just say small payback.November 25, 2019 at 9:00 am #4026
I don’t have time for this! Silently cursing as he felt his fur stand on end, as if it had sensed the impending danger before him. The tom hesitated to go any further into the tunnel part of him wanting to have the patrol to turn around and leave the tunnels; feeling the younger apprentice at his heels so full on excitement and wonder made Skunkpaw want to continue on and be brave. There was also the fact that Smokewisp was there and if he could impress her, he’d be one step closer to catching up with Hareflight. Taking a moment to collect his thoughts his hefty paws slowly moved forward.
His long whiskers twitched as he made his decision, moving towards the tunnel on the right side. Though his fur did the opposite of what he wanted, feeling it stand more on edge than before, Fox-Dung! Well at least he was first in line, if needed he could send the others away since he was in charge.
As he moved closer to the impending danger he tossed a glance to the felines behind him, grateful that they had followed his command to wait. Feeling the presence of another he finally could place the scent, Roachpaw! Alas his discovery came too late as the paws of the black tom barreled into his shoulder, catching the hefty apprentice by surprise, his paws giving out underneath him. His gaze fixing onto the overly playful denmates, his large hind paws pressing onto the other apprentices belly, pushing him off of him. “Are you crazy Roachpaw!” The larger black and white tom raising to his paws, avoiding putting pressure on his left front paw feeling a slight pinch in it. “These tunnels are dangerous, not to mention playing a trick like that in such a confined space.” Skunkpaw would have happily joined Roachpaw in his shenanigans before but since his illness Skunkpaw no longer found join in such things. Roachpaw and Skunkpaw used to be so close, mostly finding joy in sneaking out with the other tom, Roachpaw being better at using his environment to blend into his surroundings and Skunkpaw being able to track almost anything, the two were the perfect pair until Skunkpaw became closer with his mentor and with his dear Hareflight.November 26, 2019 at 2:10 am #4101
Fearedjackal ~ ShadowClan Warrior
FearedJackal wasn’t easily amused as his dark blue gaze flickered between Smokewisp and Redpaw, the two were certainly a pair when it came to getting him to do anything. Smokewisp was a pretty she-cat and it didn’t help he had no other choice than to obey her demands as she was the deputy, but Fearedjackal could hardly ignore a pretty face when she asked nicely. Redpaw was a completely different manner, the little monster knew his weaknesses, blinking those big eyes and using his bright he smile as a weapon against Fearedjackal. He smirked slightly as he watched the red furred apprentice practically jump from paw to paw as he impatiently couldn’t wait for the lined up patrol to make their move into the tunnels. ”Behave, Redpaw.” His deep meow was soft but stern, giving his apprentice a look before his eyes flickered towards Smokewisp as she tried to reassure him that her apprentice would give them breaks if they needed it. Of course he wasn’t exactly worried about that, he just didn’t like the tunnels. The feelings of being completely surrounded by walls of dirt and who knew when the last time they had reinforced these walls since the storm. Grumbling under his breath the large black furred tomcat threw Smokewisp a looks, keeping his thoughts to himself when he noticed that Skunkpaw was finally entering the tunnels entrance, his bulky black and white form being swallowed by the dark shadows of the tunnels mouth. “Ugh..” He groaned quietly in discomfort, his large paws suddenly feeling heavy as he slowly followed Smokewisp towards the entrance of the tunnel. Toes digging into the soft dirt that was almost like mud, letting his chin tilt for a moment as he eyed the dark shadows warily before having to lower his head in order to step forth. No way would he look weak infront of the apprentices and his deputy.
He blinked his eyes in order to get adjusted to the darkness, slowly following the patrol while his ears trailed along the top of the tunnel, small particles of dirt dusted the top of his head and neck, but he didn’t mind. Although when the patrol stopped, being in the back he hadn’t heard Skunkpaw order them to wait, his chest gently bumping into Smokewisp’s rear, causing him to grimace as he quickly apologized. “Sorry, Smokewisp.” He immediately grunted, taking a step backwards to give some space between him and the molly, ears burning with his mishap. Pupils narrowing slightly as he looked over the molly, spotting Redpaw as his apprentice seemed excited and could barely stay still, but he knew that Smokewisp would keep him in line if need be. He wasn’t close enough to hear or see the surprise attack that Roachpaw had sprung on Skunkpaw but the fur running along his spine was beginning to rise out of discomfort with staying in one spot for so long within the tunnels. ”Is everything alright, up there?” Fearedjackal questioned Smokewisp, taking a half step forwards as he eyed the she-cat with apprehension.November 28, 2019 at 6:05 am #4141
Smokewisp – Shadowclan Deputy
Smokewisp padded along, focusing on the sounds which reverberated through the tunnel. She was thankful for the darkness, which hid her grimace as old memories tugged at her muddied paws. Her father had taken her to the tunnels countless times for training, working her until her paws bled and her muscles burned. The ragged, tense breathing of the patrol were reminiscent of her panting breaths.
She halted, watching Skunkpaw as he scouted ahead. ‘Good,’ she thought. ‘Everything is safe, but he doesn’t know that.’ Moments later the thud of crashing bodies sounded ahead. He claws unsheathed, ready to bolt to the defense of her apprentice. Whoever his assailant was, they were faintly speaking with Skunkpaw. “Something happened,” she mewed quietly to Fearedjackal. She scented the air, only detecting Shadowclan. “Someone is here,” she muttered, feeling rage prickle her paws. “Someone who isn’t supposed to be. They’ll be regretting their choices very soon.”
She caught up with Skunkpaw, relieved that he was slicked with mud but otherwise unharmed. “Roachpaw,” she growled as she eyed the young tom. He was Hornetstar’s mouthy apprentice. “The tunnels haven’t been cleared for use, you shouldn’t be here. If something had happened to you, Starclan forbid, this would be the last place your clanmates would’ve checked. Believe me, Hornetstar will hear all about this.” She shook her head, utterly disappointed in the apprentice’s foolishness.December 5, 2019 at 7:54 pm #4283
Roachpaw ~ Shadowclan Apprentice
A good hearted laugh escapes his lips at the complete shock and surprise painted his friends features. This moment would forever be ingrained into his memory, he definitely was not going to let Skunkpaw let this down. A soft grunt escaping him as the bulky tom shoved him off, skidding backwards. Claws digging into the borderline muddy earth to stabilize his clumsy movements. Blinking in mild surprise as he looks back at the tall and broad black and white tom. Scoffing as his use-to-be partner in crime was now trying to scold him for his actions. Totally not like he was his accomplice less than two months ago. Tilting his wedged cranium as he studies his friend, he did not know what was up with him lately but he needed to figure it out and bring back his carefree friend back, and fast as he was starting to become a bore. Ignoring the dry dirt on his obsidian pelt as he looks over Skunkpaw as he hears Smokewisp speak. Giving her a cheeky smile, “I have already scouted the tunnels. Well most of it — the only thing dangerous down here is the rats. Wouldn’t eat them” he carelessly adds. Completely ignoring the fact she had threatened that Hornetstar would hear about this.
The tunnels did not scare him, he did not feel unease or threatened in any way. For him it felt natural to be within the confinements of the dirt tunnels, might be because he has been exploring these tunnels ever since he first became an apprentice. At first it was just an excuse to rebel against the warriors and cause more trouble for his mentor, but in a way it helped him perfect his stealth. To learn how to blend into the shadows and use silence to his advantage, he couldn’t help that he was curious to see how the tunnels managed through the floods. Settling down on his bunches as he eyes the others in the patrol party, “So…where to next?” He asked with an amused look on his sharp features. Roachpaw knew that even though Smokewisp was angry at his careless behavior that she would not send him off on his way. No, she would want him to remain so she could keep a keen eye on the troublemaker. Spotting a young Redpaw looking around with interest and excitement caused Roach to flash him a grin despite knowing that he will be punished for his rebellious actions soon.
Eyes widening ever so slightly as he spots his uncle; Fearedjackle. Smirking as he leaves Skunkpaw and slips past Smokewisp and Redpaw. Nudging his uncle with a teasing grin, “Hello Uncle! Did you miss me?” He sang happily as he stays by his side. Ears twitching at all the eyes on him, causing his sunflower yellow eyes to flicker back to the others. “Well go on Skunkie, lead the way” He mused, lifting his right forepaws as he gestures for the bulky apprentice to get a move on.December 5, 2019 at 9:23 pm #4284
He was thankful for the darkness of the murky tunnels, hiding his embarrassing tumble with Roachpaw. His nose gently touching Smokewisp shoulder as she approached, “No need to worry, it’s just a roach.” He mewed, smirking at his old partner. Skunkpaw was more than annoyed at Roachpaw, not only for intruding on their patrol but also not for inviting him along, not that’d he’d accept such invitation. His teeth gripped the black toms tail as he made a move towards his patrol, “You’re not going anywhere! Just because you didn’t run into danger while playing around in here doesn’t mean it’s safe. These tunnels are weak, take a moment and be patient you can feel the gentle breeze past your ear tips.” The hefty time taking a moment himself to feel. “They aren’t what they were when we were kits, they can collapse, the grounds are still too soft enough pressure atop will send mud down, crushing you.” If Roachpaw had understood any of the unseen dangers Skunkpaw wouldn’t be half as mad as he was in this moment. He couldn’t handle losing his best friend.
Taking a step back from the situation the hefty tom quietly paced, he wanted to send Roachpaw back but knew he’d cause more trouble than if he just let him stay. His eyes rested on the black apprentice for a moment, exhaling sharply, “Fine you can come, but you have to stay with Fearedjackel at the rear.” Moving closer to Roachpaw ear, “We need to do this right Roachy we can’t afford any mistakes.” He whispered softly, almost pleading for his friend to behave.
Turning tail Skunkpaw took his spot at the head, clearly the right half of the tunnel was fine, “We’re moving out!” He announced, ignoring Roachpaws comment. Swerving back towards the other side of fork in the tunnel. His bushy tail gentle running along the sides of the muddy walls as he walked, he wouldn’t let another surprise sneak up on him this time.January 1, 2020 at 1:36 am #4454
FearedJackal ~ ShadowClan Warrior
He blinked as he looked towards Smokewisp as she mentioned that something had happened, causing his jaw to tighten while his dark blue eyes sharpened as he stood up straight, or as straight as he could since the roof of the tunnel was restricting. “Such as?” He questioned while his dark black nostrils flared to try and take in a scent, however with all the mud and rat in the air, his senses were clouded. Grunting for a moment as his eyes narrowed towards the tunnel that he could barely just catch sight of Skunkpaw’s tail, although aggressive did not hang heavy in the air but surprise and annoyance.
Slowly he felt a sigh being released from his nostrils as he noticed his nephew walking out of the tunnel, his pelt just as black as his own. Roachpaw… why am I not surprised. He thought silently to himself, feeling an eyebrow arch as he noticed the carefree attitude of the young Tom as he walked through the ranks in order to stand beside of him. Chin dipping down for his gaze to land on the young Tom as he was nudged, keeping a stern expression upon his face although he was keen on Roachpaw. “Always getting into trouble.” He tsked, shaking his head for a moment as he allowed the young Tom to get in front of him by taking a few steps back. “Just keep your head down and listen to what Skunkpaw and Smokewisp have to say and perhaps HornetStar will go easy on you.” He snickered softly.
Looking towards the red pelt of Redpaw, seeing that his apprentice was comfortable where he was at with watching the actions transpire, never throwing himself into situations where he wasn’t needed. Smart. “We are good to go!” He called over the three heads of cats in front of him, alerting Skunkpaw that he was now in charge once more with the patrol.January 3, 2020 at 12:10 pm #4573
Smokewisp – Shadowclan Deputy
Smokewisp shook her head ruefully at Roachpaw. ‘No use scolding him,’ she thought dryly. Hornetstar would hear about his escapades soon enough. More than anything, the young tom needed to understand the danger he risked by adventuring alone. Skunkpaw also reprimanded him, although perhaps with more tact than she might’ve used. She supposed their friendship warranted a softer touch. But, more importantly Skunkpaw had always had a talent for empathizing and persuading others.
Nodding to Fearedjackal, she followed after Skunkpaw. The tunnels were mostly silent, despite the occasional drip of water or rustling of a rat. However, an acrid stench soon began to waft through, carried on the slight breeze. Her nose wrinkled unpleasantly. ‘That wasn’t here before,’ she thought silently. “Skunkpaw,” she called out. “What’s that smell? Something isn’t right,” she mewed. They’d soon have completed their patrol, but whatever this stench was emanating from warranted investigation. It smelled vaguely two-leg, and she silently wondered if something might’ve been pulled into the tunnels by a rat.
