    Firepaw ~ ShadowClan Apprentice

Apple green colored eyes narrowed slightly as the young feline peered through the foliage, pupils narrowing slightly as she was following around Dustypaw without her sibling really knowing. He had been sent out today on a solo mission to catch as much as he possibly could before the sun reached a certain point in the sky. Of course, her mentor had no idea that she was out here, or that she had dragged her twin, Crimsonpaw along for the ride. Her long and thin tail lightly smacked against his muzzle while she smirked slightly. “You need to be quieter. Or else he will know we are here.” She whispered with her teeth gritted, sometimes she swore that Crimsonpaw was making so much noise on purpose. Firepaw had no idea that Dustypaw was such an excellent hunter, he kept to the marshlands, their webbed toes perfect for the moist earth. He practically glided over the marsh, while his sage green eyes were intent on catching what appeared to be his favorite prey, frogs. She thought with distaste, grumbling softly to herself as her apple green eyes boredly examined their surroundings as they continued deeper and deeper into the marshlands, causing her small dark pink nose to twitch slightly for a moment. White whiskers pulled back to her cheeks in moment silence before the young she-cat turned to look at Crimsonpaw, her eyes glinting with further mischief. “This is boring, I am going to the SkyClan border.” She whispered excitedly to her littermate, smiling broadly before the short and slender she-cat began to walk towards the direction of the border.

Her pelt was a fiery orange, with a pale cream underbody. Dark black spots cover her entire pelt, making her as a bengal, an offspring of the spotted Hollowflame and the chocolate calico, Briarfeather. Although, for now she kept to the shadows as she didn’t want Dustypaw to take notice of her presence, keeping low to the ground as she slowly stalked further and further away from her brown and white patched sibling. She hadn’t even bothered to see if Crimsonpaw had followed her as she slunk further into the shadows, finally straightening out her frame with a quick shake to her pelt. This was incredibly boring, Dustypaw was doing just fine and didn’t need the two of them hovering over his shoulder. Lifting her nose into the air, breathing in the scents around her as the familiar tang of birch trees and the thin branch of river that separated ShadowClan from the small peak of SkyClan, it was barely a border really. “Oh! SkyClan is this way.” She mused outloud, her long tail curling above her back as she began to walk towards the border, her eyes widening in curosity as she heard the river before she saw it. The current was slow and lazy, with roughly three fox lengths wide, it was rather narrow for the river. “Oooo… So pretty.” She squealed in delight at the sight of the birch trees, ears standing upright as she walked closer and closer towards the edge.

“Come on Firepaw I have training in the morning. Lets go back home.” His huffy voice taking no consideration for his brothers hunting activity, leaving the camp wasn’t even his idea, Firepaw insisted on following Dustypaw claiming to want to “watch over him.” Crimsonpaw was no fool he knew she just wanted to leave without a chaperon and explore or do something, meaning her darker twin had no other choice but to follow her, who else would stop her if she decided to do something stupid. His ears twitched as the sound of his brother landing a catch, Dustypaw was a great hunter, it warmed Crimsonpaw heart to see his brother excel at something, “See Dustypaw is fine, lets go before we get caught.” He urged his sister to turn around. Stepping back when she whipped around to look at him, oh how he dreaded that familiar look in her eyes, silently pleading with Starclan to rein her in. His eyes widening at her deceleration, “Skyclan? Wait no way Firepaw.” Trotting to chase after the fiery she cat, catching up to her with ease His body moving in front of her to block the path, “Im putting my paws down Firepaw. Turn around!” His voice was stern, not that it mattered as the slender molly simply moved around him.

Crimsonpaw of course followed his littermate, he couldnt let her go alone, thats not how family worked. His body was slightly broader than his sister, his pelt a lovely shade or two darker than his twin sister which became more obvious as he was stalking closely behind her finding more comfort in the safety of the shadows. A cold chill still hung over the tom cats shoulder, it was different when Firepaw messed around in Shadowclan territory, but the closer they got to the boarder the bigger the risk. The calming sound of water echoed in his folded ears, for such a calm sight it still sent a stress feeling through his body. His eyes rolling at Firepaws fascination with the river, “Seriously Fish, why not just invade Riverclan.” Crimsonpaw had perfected the “Mature Older Brother” act when they were around others but when it was just him and his littermates he couldnt help but act like a normal apprentice with his jokes. Even though he didnt like the idea of being so close to Skyclan he couldnt resist trying to have fun with his sister. “Maybe just quick dip to get a better look then we head home.” His head quickly head butting the molly with his suggestion.

“River stones, river stones,” Duskpaw sang softly, darting across the banks in search of stones in the river. He wanted the rocks that the river had cut and worn away until they had developed a svelte-like surface.

“Daisypaw, I swear by the stars, you get slower every day!” The tom called to his sister, amusement lighting his turquoise eyes. “If you don’t hurry, I’ll have collected all the prettiest stones, and you’d have nothing.” For the past moon, Duskpaw had been unable to rid himself of the thought that his nest was severely lacking. He didn’t remember much from his time wandering as a loner except Duskpaw knew their nest always had a trinket or two. After all, two kittens traveling with their parents are bound to go traversing, and as such bring back things from their investigations. Here in Skyclan, all the nests were the same, save for the few clanmates that chose to add minimal decor, and it bothered Dusk in a way he couldn’t place.

“Should we take some river flowers, too?” Duskpaw inquired, turning his head to face Daisypaw’s equally small frame. The pair had been apprentices for two moons and yet to divide their nests. The thing about spending all the time you’ve lived with you sister (mostly) is that you (inevitably) get attached. Duskpaw and Daisypaw still shared nests, for Dusk having his sister close eased the pain of broken memories of their parents. He couldn’t be sure, but Dusk liked to think his sister felt the same.

“Ya think any Shadowclanners would be patrolling right now, Daisy-Dear?” He grinned, motioning for his sister to step closer. “That’d get me a chewing out from Foxtongue,” he added with a sigh.

Peering over the side of the gently flowing water, her ears flattened against her skull. The thought of accidentally falling into the cold, swirling depths made her feel nervous. Not only would it take a long time for her fur to dry off, she also didn’t know how to swim, and Duskpaw would surely tease her for moons on end if she were to splash around in the shallows. As she continued to stare into the water, only the reflection of her sand-swept face and golden eyes stared back at her from the ripples. How easy it was to see their parents still living in her own facial features.

With a sigh, she dragged her eyes away from the water, holding her brother’s gaze for a moment before looking back. Her fluffy tail flicked wearily. “I’m trying not to fall in!” she exclaimed, pouting. “Be more careful, would you?” she called after him, her small white feet squelching beneath her quickened pace. Before catching up to him, she spotted a perfectly rounded stone to her left. Figuring her brother must her have overlooked it when he was busy teasing her, she took the pebble between her teeth. Once she’d caught up to him, she carefully set it within Duskpaw’s reach. “If there are, you better not cause any trouble,” she teased him with a smile, though the serious glint in her eyes told him otherwise.

    Firepaw ~ ShadowClan Apprentice

Crimsonpaw was always a bit of a stick in the mud, he didn’t know how to have fun on his own. Not that it mattered, Firepaw would always be with him and as long as that happened, he would never have to worry about living a dull life. Of course, he always did try to keep her out of trouble, but it didn’t always work. He was trying so hard to keep her curiosity at bay today, but it was getting the best of her. Apple green eyes watched the river curiously, her ears rotating to face behind her as she heard the familiar paw steps of her darker furred twin as he marched up behind her. Even though Crimsonpaw was broader and his pelt was a few shades darker, much like Hollowflame’s and Snappingfox’s, their facial structure was very similar. One masculine and the other quite feminine. There was no mistaking that they were related. Pale cream lips parted as a small giggle left her throat, her eyes gleaming as she padded up to the edge of the slow moving river, her little pink nose twitching as she breathed in the scent before she looked over her shoulder blade towards Crimsonpaw. “Because then I would start to become predictable.” She snickered playfully while her long tail lightly batted against his muzzle. Crimsonpaw was the only HollowBriar kit to inherit the rare trait of folded ears within the family, but it suited him and his pout. Honestly she didn’t really notice he was different!

Although, as he mentioned that perhaps they could dip into the river and leave, her pelt bristled with excitement as she was given ‘permission’ as if she needed it anyways. “You get wet? I’m looking forward to this.” Firepaw snickered with amusement, her chest warm as Crimsonpaw gently head butted her shoulder blade in a display of affection. Licking one of his folded ears, she didn’t hesitate to scoot care free down the bank, her slender figure moving on its own as she now stood on the carefully corroded pebbles. “They are so smooooooth!” Firepaw called out with excitement, her eyes wide with wonder as she stepped, before her fiery red body swiftly turned to start walking into the river, only wading to her ankles before she stopped. Firepaw caught sight of the other felines on the other side of the bank, her chin tilting as she breathed in the scents. They were clearly SkyClan and even though she didn’t know if they were friendly or not… “Hey, there!” Firepaw called in a friendly tone, walking further down the bank to get closer to where they were, although she stayed to her side of the river and only ankle deep in the river. “How are you? I’m Firepaw!” She introduces herself, eyes bright as she looked between Duskpaw and Daisypaw.

His ears twitched, his body tensing when his sister spotted Skyclanners approaching from their side of the border. With no hesitation his body hit the water hard, instinctively moving to Firepaws’ side, ignoring the splashes of water hitting his face from his pounce. Crimsonpaws body was just a paw step or two in front of his sister, his eyes narrowed at the silhouettes of the others. His nostrils flaring in a hefty airying exhale, “Why must you treat everything so lightly.” His voice a low growl. Crimsonpaw truly didn’t mind most of her antics, but this one was different, now there were other clanners she was being so friendly with. Based on their size they were apprentices themselves Crimsonpaw was positive they could easily handle this if they were not as friendly as Firepaw, but he;d rather not even take the chance.

“We’re just here enjoying the water, nothing more.” His voice spoke up to the other feines, there was no way he’d actually tell them the real reason they were here was because his curious sister wanted to take a look at the Skyclan border.
